A Legacy Woven Through Generations

Our family story · De Pers Tapijten
The story of our father, his lifelong passion for authentic carpets and the family business he built with dedication, courage and love for his craft.
Some carpets are more than just beautiful objects. They carry traditions passed down through generations, reflect the craftsmanship of experienced weavers and tell stories that deserve to be shared.
For our family, carpets have always been more than a business. They represent our heritage, our shared passion and the life's work of our father, who dedicated decades to discovering and collecting exceptional carpets.
Following his passing, we would like to share his story and the journey behind a collection that has been such an important part of our family life.
A family history rooted in Persian craftsmanship
Our family has had a special connection with carpets for generations. On our mother's side, family members were master weavers in Isfahan, one of the best-known centres of Persian carpet weaving. Our mother deepened her knowledge of art by studying art history in Paris. Our father's grandmother was also a skilled carpet weaver.
Our father was born on 26 February 1947 in Iran. He grew up surrounded by family traditions, art and culture.
After his military service in Nahavand, he travelled to India to study agronomy. Although his career initially took a different direction, his passion for carpets would eventually shape his future.
A journey of courage and perseverance
After our father lost his government position during the political changes in Iran, he decided to turn his passion for carpets into his profession.
He built a trading network, selected high-quality carpets and worked with relatives abroad to bring them to international markets.
When our family later decided to leave Iran in search of a safer future, our father had converted his possessions into gold, US dollars and valuable carpets. Unfortunately, we were stopped at the border and almost everything was confiscated.
Despite this devastating setback, our father did not give up. With a small amount of gold that our parents had managed to keep, he began to rebuild his trade. Within a few months, he was trading carpets at the bazaar again.
His ability to begin again, even after losing so much, became one of the most defining qualities of his life.
Building De Pers Carpets in the Netherlands
In 1994–1995, our father moved to the Netherlands and began a new chapter.
Initially, he worked as a wholesaler, travelling across the country to deliver carefully selected carpets to shops. Later, together with our mother, he opened his own shop, first in the Molenstraat and then at Torenstraat 168.
In 2007, the next generation joined the family business. With new ideas and technical knowledge, the company continued to grow into a true family enterprise, combining everyone's talents and shared dedication.
In 2008, we launched our first online shop, De Pers Carpets. It brought authentic carpets to a wider audience at a time when the traditional carpet industry still largely focused on physical stores.
Our father continued to select his carpets with great care. In 2016, he travelled to Pakistan and India to personally select and import pieces that met his high standards for quality and craftsmanship.
Over the years, our collection has included authentic hand-knotted carpets from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Turkey. Each one reflects a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship and the distinct character of the region from which it originates.
A special collection deserves a new home
With our father's passing, an important chapter in our family's history has come to a close.
As part of settling his estate and dividing the possessions among the heirs, we have made the difficult decision to close our carpet business permanently.
We are therefore offering carpets from this special collection at significantly reduced prices. These pieces represent decades of experience, thoughtful selection and a lifelong appreciation for the art of carpet weaving.
We hope that these carpets will find new homes with people who appreciate their beauty, character and artisanal quality. Perhaps a carpet that was part of our father's journey will become part of your own family story.
Grateful for all that remains
Our father leaves behind more than a collection of remarkable carpets. He leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, entrepreneurship and enduring love for his craft.
We are grateful to everyone who has supported our family business over the years. Although De Pers Carpets is preparing to close its doors permanently, we hope the carpets our father valued so deeply will continue to bring warmth, character and beauty into homes for years to come.
Thank you for being part of our story.
